What I think "Your voice is a gift from God. What you do with it is your gift to God." I sing to express and share this gift. I teach because I want to spread this gift and help others discover their own gifts. I studied science and linguistics before I took voice training. I realized that my background in biology, physics and linguistics helped me understand the inner mechanism in classical singing, and I am able to explain it better to my students than many other teachers.
Calling trained classical singers... I also try to organize Chamber Concerts for Trained Classical Singers of the San Francisco Bay Area, to provide performance opportunities for (1) those who lack them (2) those who want to sing in a relaxed atmosphere (3) those who just want to sing for fun. As a group, it will also provide networking and camaraderie for classical singers. Requirement: Trained/serious classical singers (not pop or rock & roll), from second-year voice students to semi-professionals. Unlike the entertainment world, your height, weight, color or age does not matter. Must get along with people (no prima donnas), be responsible, punctual and a team-player. Professionals are of course welcome if you don't mind being "above par" and even better if you can help mentor. Let classical voices ring, let more people hear it. My teacher, Jeanne Garson, always told me, "Never stop singing!" The last word she gave me before she passed away was "Singet!" |
